Definition Edit

Gopher is a software program, developed at the University of Minnesota, which organizes information into a series of menus. Using Gopher is like browsing a table of contents: a user crawls through a set of "nested" menus to zero in on a specific subject.

"The development of gopher at the University of Minnesota in the early 1990s was a key step in establishing the Internet as an information resource that could be used through a consistent user interface."[1]
