Overview[]

in May 2009, President Obama announced the creation of a Global Engagement Directorate (GED) within the National Security Council (NSC), "to drive comprehensive engagement policies that leverage diplomacy, communications, international development and assistance, and domestic engagement and outreach in pursuit of a host of national security objectives...."[1]

As part of the activities of the GED, NSC holds weekly interagency policy committee meetings that can directly concern public diplomacy and strategic communication issues.
