Definition Edit

Flooding is a

[t]ype of incident involving insertion of a large volume of data resulting in denial of service.[1]

Overview Edit

A flooding attack targets the bandwidth used to provide service.

They generally work by sending either a large volume of data that consumes all the bandwidth of a connection or by sending so many packets that the connection, routers, or servers are overwhelmed processing them and become extremely slow or stop responding.[2]
