The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) is a 36-member inter-governmental policy-making body, created by the G-7 countries in 1989, with the purpose of establishing international standards, and developing and promoting policies, both at national and international levels, to combat money laundering and terrorist financing. These policies aim to prevent such proceeds from being utilized in future criminal activities and from affecting legitimate economic activities. The United States is a member of the FATF.
