Icon

An icon is a

symbol displayed on the computer screen that represents a command or program (e.g., a trash can symbolizing the command to delete a document). Icons help make computer operating systems and applications easier to use.[1]
graphic symbol, or pictograph, on the computer or its connecting cables, which shows where to connect a device; OR on the computer screen, a graphic symbol that represents an interactive object which can be clicked to trigger an action, such as opening a document, accessing [a] hard drive, or pushing a 'button' to navigate within a program.[2]
