Overview Edit

Publications in the Federal Information Processing Standards Publications (FIPS PUB) series collectively constitute the Federal Information Processing Standards Register. The purpose of the Register is to serve as the official source of information in the Federal Government regarding standards issued by the NBS (now the NIST) pursuant to the Federal Property and Administrative Services Act of 1949 as amended,[1] and as implemented by Executive Order 11717[2] and Part 6 of Title 15 CFR (Code of Federal Regulations).

FIPS PUBS also include approved Federal information processing standards information of general interest, and a complete index of relevant standards publications.
