Field Manual (FM) 3-05.102 provides the U.S. Army special operations forces (ARSOF) commander and his staff a broad understanding of intelligence support to ARSOF. This manual also provides guidance for ARSOF commanders who determine the force structure, budget, training, materiel, and operational requirements needed to prepare organic military intelligence (MI) assets to conduct their missions and collateral activities. This Service doctrine is consistent with joint doctrine. ARSOF need relevant, accurate, predictive, and timely intelligence and information to —
- Identify and develop targets.
- Plan missions.
- Secure the element of surprise.
- Protect the force.
- Protect friendly command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence (C4I).
