The White House, Executive Order 13292, Further Amendment to Executive Order 12958, As Amended, Classified National Security Information (Mar. 25, 2003) (full-text).

Overview[]

This Executive Order on classification amended Executive Order 12958. It changed section 1.5 of Executive Order 12958, which had permitted classification of "scientific, technological, or economic matters relating to the national security" by adding a new clause, permitting classification of "scientific, technological, or economic matters relating to the national security, which includes defense against transnational terrorism."[1] The amendment also added a new category of information which may be classifiedinformation that concerns "weapons of mass destruction" (Sec. 1.4(h)). The exemption for basic scientific research not clearly related to national security remains (renumbered section 1.7).
