Definition Edit

Ex officio (Latin for "by virtue of office or position") is often used when someone holds one position by virtue of holding another position. "Ex officio" also refers to an administrative or judicial office which can take action of its own accord, for example to invalidate a patent or prosecute a copyright infringer.
