Electronic decision support systems (EDSS) (or clinical decision support systems (CDSS}) are

active knowledge systems designed to aid clinicians in decision making by matching individual patient characteristics to computerized knowledge bases for the purpose of generating patient-specific assessments or recommendations.[1]
