An education record is a record containing information directly related to a student and maintained by an educational institution. Access to education records is governed by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Sole possession records, medical or psychological records, alumni records, employment records, and law enforcement records are not considered education records and not subject to FERPA.
