A dual-mode vehicle is a vehicle

[d]eveloped from traditional cars but able to support both fully automatic and manual driving. The first applications of automatic driving will be for relocation of shared cars using platooning techniques, but dual-mode vehicles could become full cyber cars in specific areas or infrastructures. They represent the migration path from traditional cars to automatic driving.[1]
