Definition Edit

A digital typefont is

a bitmapped digital representation of an actual analog typeface design, stored in binary form on magnetic or optical media, or Read-Only Memory (ROM) mounted on a circuit board. Sometimes, the ROM on the circuit board is assembled into a plastic cartridge which is inserted into a laser printer or other microprocessor-driven device. When decoded and interpreted by the ‘bitmapping codesoftware, the digital representation of the design will reproduce the appropriate character.[1]
