Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) is

the transmission of audio broadcasts in digital form as opposed to . . . (AM or FM) analog form. DAB promise[d] compact disc quality sound over the air. Many formats [were] developed, and transmission is possible via terrestrial transmitters, satellites, or hybrid systems.[1]
