Definition Edit

A data compression facility is

[a]n optional FRCP (Frame Relay Compression and Privacy Protocol) facility responsible for enabling and initiating data compression algorithms on both ends of the link and negotiated between peer devices. The mode and algorithms are selected independently for each direction of a virtual connection. The FRCP control protocol provides the following services for data compression: encapsulation, negotiation and synchronization (including: detection of loss of synchronization, resynchronization, anti-expansion protection, encoding of user data into compressed user data and decoding of compressed user data into uncompressed user data).[1]
