The White House, FACT SHEET: Cybersecurity National Action Plan (Feb. 9, 2016) (full-text).

Overview Edit

On February 9, 2016, President Obama directed his Administration to implement a Cybersecurity National Action Plan (CNAP) that takes near-term actions and puts in place a long-term strategy to enhance cybersecurity awareness and protections, protect privacy, maintain public safety as well as economic and national security, and empower Americans to take better control of their digital security.

This plan directs the Federal Government to take new action now and fosters the conditions required for long-term improvements in its approach to cybersecurity across the Federal Government, the private sector, and citizens' personal lives.

Highlights of the CNAP include actions to:

  • Invest over $19 billion for cybersecurity as part of the President's Fiscal Year (FY) 2017 Budget. This represents a more than 35 percent increase from FY 2016 in overall Federal resources for cybersecurity.
