The Cryptographic Modernization Initiative (CMI) is a U.S. military program fulfilling a need to modernize legacy cryptographic equipment. CMI affects all MILSATCOM systems and impacts secure voice and data communications. It is focused on replacing, modernizing and transforming command and control, communications, computer, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, information technology and weapons systems that rely on cryptography.
