Definition[]

Credit protection services help a consumer track his/her credit movement; it informs the consumer if any unauthorized charges have been made or if someone other than the consumer is attempting to set up an account in the consumer's name.

Overview[]

It works by notifying the consumer's bank, credit providers, credit bureau, and the consumer when a suspicious or unauthorized change in his/her accounts occurs. Also it can detect when a false account is being established using a consumer's personal data. Credit protection services often allow the consumer to check his/her credit status via the internet. Credit protection services do not help a consumer raise his/her credit rating nor does it affect it in any negative way.
