Credential validation

[e]stablishes the validity of the identity credential presented as part of the authentication transaction; PKI certificates are validated using techniques such as revocation status checking and certificate path validation. Validation of other credentials can include PIN check, security object check, Cardholder Unique Identifier (CHUID) validation, mutual SSL/TLS, the validation of digital signatures, or other non-biometric and non-cryptographic mechanisms.[1]
