Definition Edit

The Correspondence Management System (CMS) records the Copyright Office’s written transactions with remitters, and has largely replaced the earlier ETS system.[1]

Overview Edit

The system allows retrieval of records by correspondence control number, applicant's name, title of work, and any entered cross-references.[2] Authority to maintain such records is granted by 17 U.S.C. §705 and 17 U.S.C. 908(b).[3]

The system was fully installed in 1981.[4] CMS was established as part of COINS (Copyright Office In-Process System).[5]
