Core knowledge is

[t]he application of intelligence analysis methods to evaluate current and future (1) foreign force development, composition, deployment, and employment; (2) foreign weapon systems characteristics, performance, vulnerabilities, and employment; (3) technological developments and acquisitions and the ability to weaponize and employ acquired technologies; and (4) characterization of the major subsystems of foreign weapon systems and how they interact at the "black box" level (e.g., describe the radar's input/output characteristics and target handling capability).[1]
