General[]

Copying refers to the act of making a reproduction of something.

U.S. copyright law[]

Copying is legally actionable under U.S. copyright law if:

(1) the alleged infringer actually used the copyrighted material to create his own work, and
(2) substantial similarity exists between the two works.[1]
