Overview Edit

The Conficker Working Group was an informal group of private sector and government representatives that developed mitigation techniques to respond to the evolving threat of Conficker. Starting in late 2008, and continuing through June of 2010, the working group conducted its activities in an ad hoc and self-organizing manner, and was instrumental in reducing the impact and infection rate of U.S. computers.

In 2009, The Department of Homeland Security funded a project to develop and produce a "Lessons Learned” document (full-text) that could serve as a permanent record of the events surrounding the creation and operation of the working group, and that it could be used as an exemplar upon which similar groups could build in the future.
