Computer-aided design is

the application of computer technology to the product design process. The term covers both drafting applications (in the creation, modification, storage, and production of engineering and other technical drawings) and modeling (the generation and use of three-dimensional models).
[a] computer-based system for the design, drafting, and display of graphical information. Also known as computer-aided drafting, such systems are most commonly used to support engineering, planning, and illustrating activities.[1]
