  1. A collision occurs when two or more demands are made simultaneously on computer equipment that can handle only one demand at a time.
  2. On an Ethernet network, a collision occurs when two devices connected to the same physical segment attempt to transmit at the same time. When collisions are detected, devices delay retransmission for a brief, randomly selected period.
