Cognizant Security Agency (CSA) refers to

[a]gencies of the Executive Branch that have been authorized by Executive Order (EO) 12829, "National Industrial Security Program (NISP)," to establish an industrial security program to safeguard classified information under the jurisdiction of those agencies when disclosed or released to U.S. Industry. These agencies include the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Energy (DOE), Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).[1]
