A character set is

[a] collection of characters, such as ASCII or EBCDIC used to represent data in a system. Usually includes special symbols and control functions. Often synonymous with code.[1]

General[]

A character set is a list of characters that are used together in writing or printing.

A character set is

standard set of letters (basic written symbols or graphemes), which is used to write one or more languages based on the general principle that the letters represent phonemes (basic significant sounds) of the spoken language or other symbols that convey meaning.[2]
