Definition[]

Call splashing occurs when someone makes a telephone call from a pay phone or a hotel phone and tries to use their long distance provider. Instead of connecting directly to the provider, the call may be routed to a distant call center before being sent to the chosen carrier. This results in an expensive telephone call, much higher than if the call had been connected directly to the user's chosen provider. Sometimes the user is billed for two calls instead of one.
