Overview Edit

Cable television companies first began providing broadband cable modem service in the late 1990s. This service, which is primarily available in residential areas, enables cable operators to deliver broadband service through the same coaxial cables that deliver pictures and sound to television sets. Although the speed of service varies with many factors, download speeds of up to 6 Mbps are typical. Some cable providers are offering even higher download speeds, up to 100 Mbps.
