Overview[]

The Business Action to Support the Information Society (BASIS) was formed by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in 2006 after the U.N. World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) (Geneva 2003, Tunis 2005).

BASIS advises governments and other concerned parties on how to put in place investment and business-friendly frameworks, which include conditions such as rule of law and pro-competitive policies.

BASIS assures and coordinates participation from business at meetings such as the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), WSIS follow-up and implementation activities. BASIS also contributes to other U.N. forums, such as the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD), which assesses post-WSIS activities and development issues. In addition, BASIS promotes partnerships and facilitates exchange of information between different stakeholders on Internet governance issues in these forums.
