A boundary is a

[s]oftware, hardware, or physical barrier that limits access to a system or part of a system.[1]

The boundary of an Automated Information System (AIS) or network includes all users that are directly or indirectly connected and who can receive data from the system without a reliable human review by an appropriately cleared authority.[2]
