Bolt Beranek and Newman (BBN) is a computer consulting group in Cambridge, Massachusetts, that had the initial contract from ARPA to build the first equipment for what was to become the ARPANET (now the Internet). BBN built the first IMPs (the Interface Message Processors), which were the first nodes of the network.
