Definitions Edit

Automation is

Automation "occurs when a machine does work that might previously have been done by a person."[3]

Overview Edit

"The term relates to both physical work and mental or cognitive work that might be replaced by AI. Automation, and its impact on employment, have been significant social and economic phenomena since at least the Industrial Revolution. It is widely accepted that AI will automate some jobs, but there is more debate about whether this is just the next chapter in the history of automation or whether AI will affect the economy differently than past waves of automation have previously."[4]

"Automation emphasizes efficiency, productivity, quality, and reliability, focusing on systems that operate without direct control, often in structured environments over extended periods, and on the explicit structuring of such environments."[5]
