An authoritative data source is

[t]he repository or system that contains the data and attributes about an individual that are considered to be the primary source for this information. If two systems with an individual's data have mismatched information, the authoritative data source is used as the most correct.[1]
a data structure and value domain set that is readily available to provide common domains of data values to different databases.[2]
