Authentication information is "[i]nformation used to verify an identity claimed by or for an entity."[1]

"Authentication information may exist as, or be derived from, one of the following: (a) Something the entity knows (i.e., a password); (b) something the entity possesses (i.e., a token); (c) something the entity is (i.e., biometric authentication)."[2]
