Definition Edit

Attribute authentication is

the process of establishing an understood level of confidence that an attribute applies to a specific individual.[1]

Overview Edit

"Attribute authentication happens in two phases: (1) an attribute selection phase, during which an attribute to be authenticated is selected in some way, and (2) an authentication phase, during which the required level of confidence is established, either by direct observation of the individual for the purpose of verifying the applicability of the attribute or by challenging the individual to produce one or more authenticators supporting the claim that the selected attribute refers to the individual."[2]
