Citation Edit

Council of Europe, Amendments to the Convention for the Protection of Individuals With Regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data (ETS No. 108) Allowing the European Communities to Accede (June 15, 1999) (full-text).

Overview Edit

Accession by the Communities reflects the European Union's wish to develop co-operation with the Council of Europe and help create a stronger international forum on data protection, particularly vis-à-vis third countries. Because the Convention only applied to Parties to the Convention, it was necessary to draft amendments allowing the European Communities to accede.
