An accreditation authority is an

[organization that] [a]ssesses and validates that identity providers, attribute providers, relying parties, and identity media adhere to an agreed upon Trust Framework.[1]
[e]ntity trusted by all members of a group of entities for the purposes of the generation of private accreditation information.[2]
